The number of career victories–for him, 907, 1,075 total that left every other male and female coaches in Division I basketball behind only hints at why Sports Illustrated have chosen Mike Krzyzewski and Pat Summitt as Sportsman and Sportswoman in 2011.
More than that, he has won eight national titles along with all of the games, while graduating every last woman to play four years for him.
As for Krzyzewski, with four more seasons he will complete 40 years as a collegiate head coach. He won a fourth national title and unlikeliest in 2010, and–oh, by the way-sandwiched around two almost criminally under-appreciated international gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics and World Championships in 2010, as the u.s. national team head coach who has been a steady decline in the program. No other coach has ever won the Olympic Games, and the world–the NCAAs and Coach K does so within 26 months.
